Martial law in Ukraine cannot be introduced without real grounds – Groysman

KYIV. Nov 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The only reason for the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, which significantly restricts the rights of citizens and increases the powers of authorities, is a real, not an ephemeral external threat, leader of the Ukrainian Strategy political party Volodymyr Groysman said.

Commenting on the prospects for the introduction of martial law in Ukraine, including because of reports of the accumulation of Russian troops on the Ukrainian border, Groysman emphasized that the statement and announcement of martial law would definitely affect the lives of people, the economy, prices, and state government.

"I would advise the authorities to be very cautious in this. Martial law can only be considered when there is a real threat of invasion or the hostilities outbreak. And this should be realistic. The second position. If there is a reason (to declare martial law), there should be coordination with partners – first of all, military coordination. This is a matter of trust. And the third point! Ukraine is not just a name, it is a state. People live in it. We need to go out to people and explain what is happening and why," Groysman said on the air of Ukraine 24 channel.

The party leader also drew attention to the fact that according to the law introducing martial law, article of 43 paragraphs on increasing the powers of the authorities and article of 24 paragraphs on limiting the rights of citizens, including the right to freedom of speech, are provided.

"And this is the most dangerous thing! […] Power is transferred to the military, power is transferred to the government. And now we have a government that cannot deal with the economy," he said.
