Mariupol seaport reduces cargo handling by 3.9% in eight months

KYIV. Sept 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Mariupol seaport (Donetsk region) in January-August 2021 reduced transshipment of goods by 3.87% compared to the same period in 2020, to 4.474 million tonnes.

According to the website of the Ukrainian Sea Ports Authority, for the eight months of this year, the port increased the transshipment of export cargo by 8.22% compared to the same period in 2020 – up to 4.188 million tonnes, reduced the transshipment of imported cargo – by 33.84%, to 278,050 tonnes. Transshipment of cabotage cargo fell by 97.7% and amounted to 8,400 tonnes. At the same time, the port did not handle transit cargo.

In terms of the nomenclature of cargo for the specified period, the port reduced the transshipment of liquid cargo by 41.25% – to 62,800 tonnes, transshipment of bulk cargo – by 27.99%, to 1.011 million tonnes. The transshipment of packaged cargo increased by 8.16% – up to 3.4 million tonnes.

In addition, in January-August, the port handled 2 TEU containers.

Mariupol seaport is one of the largest ports in Ukraine. Its capacity allows it to handle over 17 million tonnes of cargo per year. The port is open year-round for calling ships up to 240 m in length and up to 8 m draft. Its territory is 73.2 hectares, the length of the berthing line is 4.2 km.
