Maritime and River Transport Service expects Ukraine to ratify Maritime Labor Convention by 2022
KYIV. Sept 29 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The State Service of Maritime and River Transport expects Ukraine to ratify the 2006 Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) of the International Labor Organization (ILO) by the end of this year.
"The ministry sent out and received comments from all interested bodies. The text of the Ukrainian version has been developed. Everything has been prepared… If we work very well, then this year we will be able to have the final result. This is fundamentally important for all our seafarers. It is both the image of the state and the protection of a specific person," Head of the authority Vitaliy Kindrativ said in an exclusive interview to Interfax-Ukraine.
According to him, the ratification of this convention is very important for Ukraine, since the document regulates the protection of the rights of Ukrainian seafarers working around the world.
"Today, if something happened, a long story begins: relatives, some "acquaintances" at the Foreign Ministry, some agreements… This all happens only manually and takes a long time. We will ratify this convention. We will automatically be able to solve urgent problematic issues for seafarers," he said.
He also said that the State Service of Maritime and River Transport expects an audit from the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in 2023.
"For me, as the chairman of the Maritime Service, one of the priorities and extremely important issues is to prepare for this audit. For this we took the previous act, we are updating the statuses and developing a list of measures for a quick and efficient settlement of the situation," Kindrativ said.
