Macron does not exclude supply of fighter jets to Ukraine

PARIS. Jan 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – French President Emmanuel Macron said the possibility of delivering fighter jets to Ukraine should not be ruled out, but only if this does not lead to an escalation and does not harm the defense capability of the French army.

"Basically, nothing is forbidden," Macron said during a trip to the Netherlands, answering a question about the possibility of supplying fighter jets.

"We will consider each case separately," he said.

At the same time, the French leader said arms supplies to Ukraine are acceptable if they "do not lead to an escalation" and "wouldn’t weaken the capacities of the French army."

Earlier in January, Politico, citing sources, said representatives of Western countries were conducting internal discussions about the possibility of transferring fighter jets to Ukraine.

Prior to this, the German authorities decided to transfer the first batch of 14 Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and gave the allies permission to supply Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.

U.S. President Joe Biden also announced a decision to send 31 M1 Abrams tanks to Ukraine.
