Local generation to become one of key trends in post-war energy industry – Dpty Energy Minister
KYIV. Jan 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Decentralization and development of local generation will become one of the key principles of the post-war reconstruction of the Ukrainian energy sector, Deputy Energy Minister Mykola Kolisnyk said at the roundtable talk Ukraine’s Movement towards Energy Decarbonization. Challenges and Prospects.
"Decentralization of energy generation and distribution will allow individual settlements to reduce their dependence on large generation facilities and take the path of self-sufficiency," Kolisnyk said, quoted on the website of the Energy Ministry on Thursday.
According to him, the development of local generation, combined with responsible energy consumption, will help not only save resources, but also improve energy security at the city or community level.
As the deputy minister noted, another key principle in the energy sector in the post-war period will be to increase energy security both in terms of eliminating hybrid threats and in terms of physical protection of generation and distribution facilities.
"We pay attention to the energy of the future. One of the main vectors is the full integration of energy markets, the development of low-carbon generation, and the achievement of a climate-neutral energy indicator," he stressed.
As member of the Energy Committee of the Verkhovna Rada Serhiy Nahorniak said on the air of the national telethon on January 11, Ukraine is already holding consultations with leading manufacturers of mini-power plants in order to start creating a decentralized power supply system. However, as he noted, it will take a long time and require large investments.
