Loan portfolio of Ukrainian banks down by 0.2%, NPL by 2.4% in July – NBU
KYIV. Sept 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The loan portfolio of Ukrainian banks in July 2021 decreased by 0.2%, to UAH 1.09 trillion, and the volume of non-performing loans (NPL) – by 2.4%, to UAH 395.827 billion, according to a report posted on the website National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).
According to it, the share of non-performing loans in the banking system in July fell to 36.30% from 37.18% in June.
The National Bank indicated that over the month the portfolio of loans in the corporate sector decreased by 0.4%, to UAH 806.493 billion (NPL by 2.2%, to UAH 345.82 billion), while the portfolio of loans issued to individuals increased by 1.7%, to UAH 232.947 billion (NPL decreased by 3.5%, to UAH 49.562 billion).
At the same time, the volume of interbank loans decreased by 3.3%, to UAH 39.57 billion (including NPL decreased by 44.5%, to UAH 445 million), and the volume of loans issued to state and local authorities increased by 1.9%, to UAH 11.42 billion (NPL remained at 0%).
According to the National Bank, over July, the share of NPL in the portfolio of loans issued to the corporate sector decreased by 0.8 percentage points (to 42.88%), loans to the population – by 1.1 p.p. (up to 21.28%), interbank loans – by 0.8 p.p. (up to 1.12%), and loans to state authorities remained at the level of 0%.
The central bank’s report indicates that the loan portfolio of state-owned banks (excluding PrivatBank) in July 2021 decreased by 0.9%, to UAH 290.278 billion (NPL decreased by 5%, to UAH 112.16 billion), and the loan portfolio of PrivatBank decreased by 0.1%, to UAH 248.442 million (NPL decreased by 0.4%, to UAH 176.779 billion).
In addition, over the month, the loan portfolio of banks with foreign capital decreased by 0.4% (to UAH 359.632 billion), while with the private one it grew by 2.14% (to UAH 192.076 billion), while the NPL volume in them decreased respectively by 2.9% (up to UAH 85.047 billion) and by 3% (to UAH 21.84 billion).
Thus, over July 2021, the share of NPL in the loan portfolios of state-owned banks (excluding PrivatBank) decreased by 1.7 percentage points (to 38.64%), and in PrivatBank – by 0.2 p.p. (to 71.15%), it also decreased in banks with foreign capital by 0.6 percentage points (to 23.65%) and in banks with private one – by 0.6 p.p. (to 11.37%).
