Lithuania to buy 37 kamikaze drones from Poland, transfer them to Ukraine – Defense Minister
(Paragraphs 4-7 have been added)
KYIV. Aug 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Lithuania will purchase from Poland and transfer to Ukraine 37 kamikaze drones, Lithuanian Defense Minister Arvydas Anušauskas has said.
"Part of the funds collected by Legion of Boom (EUR 1 million) will be transferred to Lithuanian Ministry of National Defense and will be used for the purchase of 37 kamikaze drones from Poland and then sent to Ukraine. Thank you everyone, who made donations!" Anušauskas said on Twitter on Friday.
According to media statements, Warmate is light (about 5.7 kg) and transportable, with a range of up to 30 kilometers at a speed of 150 kilometers per hour. They can carry explosives.
The initiator of the Legion of Boom campaign, journalist Andrius Tapinas, said WB Group will provide some of the drones for free.
"Initially, they expected 25, but managed to agree on 27, and the Polish manufacturer will provide ten more in support of Ukraine," Tapinas said on Facebook.
The campaign to raise funds for armaments for Ukraine "Legion of Boom" was timed to coincide with the Independence Day of Ukraine. According to Tapinas, at the time the fundraiser was completed, Lithuanians had donated EUR 1.545 million.
"The account is still open, there will be a few more transfers from other banks, so the amount will increase slightly. With the addition of money raised by Polish partners, the total amount of Legion of Boom should exceed EUR 2 million," he said.
