Less than 1,000 residents receive Russian passports in Melitopol – mayor
KYIV. Aug 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Melitopol Mayor Ivan Fedorov has said that not more than 1,000 residents of the city applied for Russian passports.
"Of course, we do not have the exact figure right now… I think not more than 1,000 people applied for receiving these passports," he told a press briefing in Kyiv on Thursday.
The mayor also said that the majority of people who applied for Russian passports are senior citizens who have no access to fair information, do not use the Internet, and are intimidated by the Russian occupiers that they would be unable to receive retirement payments.
"Therefore, the only opportunity for them to receive some social payments and pension is to get a Rushist passport… But I think these are definitely not dozens of thousands of people standing in queues," Fedorov said.
