Law enforcers inform two persons of suspicion of attempted arson of house of dpty head of President's Office

KYIV. Oct 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Under the procedural leadership of the Darnytsia District Prosecutor’s Office in Kyiv, two persons involved in the attempt to set fire to the house of Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Ihor Zhovkva were informed of suspicion.

"According to the materials of the investigation, one of the suspects, a 20-year-old resident of the capital, received an order to set the house on fire through the Telegram messenger. For the execution of the order, the suspect, according to him, was promised to pay $7,000. The man involved his acquaintance, a 25-year-old resident of Cherkasy region, in committing the crime, to whom he promised to give part of this amount as a reward," the press service of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office reported.

It was established that the attackers prepared three bottles of Molotov cocktail and on the night of October 22, 2021, they arrived at the crime scene in Darnytsky district of the capital.

First, they painted offensive inscriptions on the fence of this house, after which – while one of the men was watching the situation, the other – set fire to a bottle and threw it over the fence into the territory of the house.

"While trying to set fire to the second bottle, the attacker was noticed by unauthorized persons and tried to escape, but was detained hot on the trail by law enforcement officers. Subsequently, law enforcement officers also detained his accomplice," the prosecutor said.

Currently, the issue of a preventive measure for the suspects is being resolved. The circumstances of the criminal offense, as well as other persons involved in it, are being established.

As reported, at about 4:00 am on October 22, in Darnytsky district of Kyiv, operative officers of the National Police and the Security Service of Ukraine detained a man who threw a bottle with a flammable mixture into the courtyard of the house of the Deputy Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine, responsible for the direction of European integration.

The attacker was detained in accordance with Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine. It has been established that the attacker is a 25-year-old man without a permanent place of work and residence, he comes from Kosari village of Kamiansky district, Cherkasy region, according to the communication department of the police in Kyiv.

Press Secretary of the President of Ukraine Serhiy Nikiforov said that the Office of the President of Ukraine hopes to quickly establish the customers and possible motives for the attack on the house of the Deputy Head of the Office of the President Ihor Zhovkva, as well as bring the perpetrators to justice.
