Latvian prosecutors collect evidence of 80 Ukrainians about Russia’s war crimes – PGO

KYIV. Aug 26 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Latvian prosecutors are collecting the testimony of Ukrainians regarding the filtration camps through which persons displaced to the Russian Federation pass, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) reports.

The Prosecutor General’s Office informed on the Telegram channel on Friday that Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin had a conversation with Prosecutor General of Latvia Juris Stukans.

According to the report, the Ukrainian and Latvian prosecutors discussed cooperation, in particular, within the framework of the Joint Investigation Team (JIT).

“Kostin thanked for the constant help and support of the Latvian people and fellow prosecutors who are actively working within the framework of the joint investigation team. He also asked for an exchange of information with Latvia about the assets of Russian citizens involved in the aggression," the message says.

The PGO notes that the Latvian Prosecutor General assured his colleague of Ukraine’s full support and informed that "Latvian prosecutors have already interrogated about 80 citizens of Ukraine and continue to collect testimony, in particular, regarding the filtration camps through which persons displaced to the Russian Federation pass."

"The majority of Ukrainian citizens entering Latvia through Russia have left the temporarily occupied territories. They can give valuable testimony, so it is important for us to actively work with them together with our Latvian colleagues," Kostin stressed in turn.

The Prosecutor General’s Office reported that the prosecutor generals of both countries agreed on a common position on the need to create a special international tribunal to bring to justice the military and political leadership of the Russian Federation.
