Latvia resumes rehabilitation program for wounded Ukrainian soldiers – Latvian MFA
KYIV. Aug 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Latvia has been resuming the rehabilitation program for wounded Ukrainian servicemen coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since August 15, 2022.
"At the Vaivari National rehabilitation center, 12 Ukrainian servicemen will begin a three-week course of treatment to receive rehabilitation services and recover from severe injuries sustained while defending Ukraine from an attack by the Russian armed forces," the press service of the Latvian Foreign Ministry reports.
The Ministry noted that the relevant decision was made on March 7, 2022. The program is implemented at the expense of the state budget of Latvia. Some EUR 280,000 have been allocated for the rehabilitation of Ukrainian servicemen.
"The selection of Ukrainian patients, their transportation to Latvia and the provision of rehabilitation services at the Vaivari National Rehabilitation Center is coordinated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in cooperation with the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Welfare and with the support of the Ministry of Defense. Carrying out the rehabilitation of seriously wounded Ukrainian soldiers, the specialists of the National Rehabilitation Center Vaivari will use their professional skills and technological capabilities to reduce the consequences of injuries and help patients return to society," the message says.
The provision of medical assistance to victims of military clashes in eastern Ukraine was started back in 2014. Until 2019, Latvia provided treatment to 58 victims in Ukraine in Latvian medical institutions.
