Latvia may again provide Ukraine with Stinger air defense system – Defense Minister
KYIV. Jan 10 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Latvia may again provide Ukraine with Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems, Latvian Defense Minister Ināra Mūrniece said, commenting on Latvia’s future military assistance to Ukraine.
According to Latvian Public Television, Murniece noted that in the second half of January, a meeting on future military assistance to Ukraine will be held at the U.S. Air Force base in Ramstein (Germany).
"In fact, the Ukrainian front is our line of defense, so we are now thinking how to join the large flow of aid to Ukraine and how to support Ukraine, how to respond to the request of President Volodymyr Zelensky," the minister said.
Murniece stated that Latvia is considering sending weapons to Ukraine and training Ukrainian soldiers. At the same time, taking into account Latvia’s earlier assistance to Ukraine, Latvia could once again provide Ukraine with Stinger anti-aircraft missile systems.
The minister also believes that Ukraine also highly appreciates unmanned aerial vehicles or drones supplied by Latvia, so Latvia could also continue their deliveries.
The war in Ukraine showed that Latvia also needs to think more seriously about strengthening the air defense system, Murniece added.
