Kyiv City Council imposes moratorium on reconstruction, repair of 119 cultural heritage sites in capital

KYIV. Sept 1 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Kyiv City Council has approved a list of 119 cultural heritage sites in the capital, for the reconstruction and repair of which a moratorium is imposed for a period of one year.

Some 99 deputies voted for the corresponding decision at the meeting on Tuesday.

Thus, the list includes 119 historic buildings of the 19th and 20th centuries in Kyiv, which may be threatened with destruction or damage, and which may be included in the list of newly discovered cultural heritage sites. One year is allocated to determine the legal status of these objects.

In addition, deputies plan to expand the list of facilities covered by the moratorium.

Meanwhile, deputy of the Kyiv City Council Ksenia Semenova said that the list did not include at least 60 objects offered by the public organization "Renovation Map", as well as a number of buildings that have already been partially destroyed (including the Barban manor on Observatorna Street).

As reported, for the last three years and the first half of 2021, the KSCA sent 35 submissions on the inclusion of 1,542 monuments and newly identified cultural heritage sites in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine.

During April 2021, the Department received orders from the Ministry of Culture for 2018-2021 to enter only 73 objects of cultural heritage in the State Register of Immovable Monuments of Ukraine, i.e. another 1,469 objects are still not included in the State Register.
