Kuleba: We are working to increase U.S. financial support for Ukraine to $1 bln per year

KYIV. Sept 23 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba has begun a dialogue with Congress and the U.S. Administration on the need to increase the total amount of support that the United States provides to Ukraine to $1 billion per year, the ministry’s press service said on Wednesday evening.

The minister said at an online briefing in New York on Wednesday that this should happen in the coming years, as there are all political and defense prerequisites for this.

Kuleba added that there are already many forces in the U.S. Congress that support such an initiative, and Ukraine will continue to actively work on its implementation. According to the minister, a significant part of this amount should go specifically to the security sector.

The club of states receiving $1 billion or more of aid from the United States per year is a "club of the elite." This is better than any general statuses, because this is real practical help, and Ukraine is working to attract it, he said.

The minister added that the issues of strengthening the missile and air defense of Ukraine are among the highest priorities in the dialogue between our state and the United States.

Kuleba said that Ukraine is working both with the United States and with other states to strengthen the Ukrainian defense capability so that Ukraine is strong.
