Kuleba: Wagner PMC must be immediately recognized as terrorist organization
KYIV. Dec 20 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukraine supports the position of African countries that consider Wagner PMC members as a significant security threat and calls for the immediate recognition of the Wagner PMC as a terrorist organization, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said.
"Ukraine, which suffers the most from the criminal activities of the Wagner PMC, supports the position of the African countries that consider Wagner PMC members as a significant security threat. They must be immediately recognized as a terrorist organization," he said at an online briefing on Tuesday.
The minister said that Ukraine calls for increasing international pressure on the governments of those states and regions that provide their countries and resources for the activities of Russian terrorists.
According to the Foreign Minister, the terrorist activities of the Wagner PMC are increasingly manifesting themselves in African countries, and this all worries Ukrainian partners.
"Now Russian mercenaries are helping the military junta that came to power in Burkina Faso after the coup in September. In exchange for Russian military assistance, Wagner PMC members received permission to develop gold deposits in the border with Ghana … This naturally leads to unrest in Accra," the minister explained.
He also stressed that Russian intervention is delaying the resumption of constitutional rule in Mali and Burkina Faso and destabilizing all of West Africa.
"The Wagner PMC benefit from the weakening of African countries, since in conditions of chaos it is easier to plunder the natural resources of the region and invest them in equipment and funding for their units in Ukraine," Kuleba said.
