Kuleba unveils monument to UGCC priest who died in Nazi concentration camp in Lublin
KYIV. Oct 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On Monday, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba took part in the opening ceremony in Lublin (Poland) of the monument to the Holy Martyr, priest of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church (UGCC) Omelyan Kovch, who died during the Second World War in the Majdanek concentration camp, the press service of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
"This memory is an important lesson in humanity. It was a matter of honor for the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry to join this project and become a part of it. The figure of Omelyan Kovch is monumental for the Ukrainian state. The whole world should know about it," Kuleba said at the opening ceremony of the monument.
Kuleba read out an address by President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky to the participants of the ceremony, in which the head of state said the figure of Father Omelyan Kovch had become a unifying figure for the Ukrainian and Polish peoples, an example of how valuable mutual support and respect are, regardless of nationality and religion.
Earlier in the afternoon, as part of a working visit to Lublin, Kuleba took part in a candle-lighting ceremony and a wreath-laying ceremony under the Mausoleum of the State Museum in Majdanek, honoring the memory of the victims of the Nazi Majdanek concentration camp.
