Kuleba: Ukraine expecting big battles, ‘big’ weapon needed to win them
KYIV. Jan 19 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba calls on partners to provide Ukraine with tanks to win on the battlefield, as big battles are expected ahead.
"We need tanks. Without tanks, it will be incredibly difficult to move on and liberate our territories. Because Russia’s firepower is still powerful, and there are several big battles ahead of us. And to win big battles, we need big weapons," Kuleba said during a video message at Ukraine House in Davos (Switzerland) on Thursday.
He again stressed that he does not see any reasonable argument why Germany should not provide Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine.
"We understand how it works, we understand their strategy of alliance with the United States. They will do it. It’s only a matter of time. Our job is to do it sooner rather than later. I think we will succeed. And I thank Chancellor Scholz in advance for making this decision," the Foreign Minister expressed confidence.
At the same time, he stressed that the first step is to provide Germany with a "green" light to other countries that are ready to transfer their Leopard tanks to Ukraine.
"Yes, we hear from the German government that the countries have not requested permission from them. But come on, we’re all realists, and we live in the real world. They will ask when Germany gives the ‘green light,’ when they know that Germany will not refuse. Germany should send a signal that the time has come," Kuleba added.
