Kuleba takes part in Lublin Triangle meeting in Poland

KYIV. Oct 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Dmytro Kuleba with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland Zbigniew Rau and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Mantas Adomėnas took part in the meeting of the Lublin Triangle, which took place in the roundtable format within the Warsaw Security Forum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine said.

"The international agenda has been shaped by large international organizations and alliances for decades. The OSCE, the Council of Europe, NATO, the EU and the UN have structured the world order. Today, primarily due to Russia’s aggressive actions, it is increasingly difficult for large alliances to maintain international peace and security. Therefore, it is of great importance are acquiring flexible regional formats, such as the Lublin Triangle," the Foreign Ministry’s press service said, citing Kuleba on Tuesday.

The minister said the Lublin Triangle is a vivid example of a new trend in international politics for the creation of regional alliances.

"This important regional format of interaction already today reveals the potential of our three countries, brings us closer and strengthens the security of Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania amid growing challenges in the region," the head of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.

The interlocutors discussed ways to strengthen the region’s security, in particular energy, joint counteraction to the threats of Nord Stream 2, the situation in Belarus, and support for Ukraine’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration. The sides paid special attention to countering disinformation.

"The Weimar Triangle once helped Poland to return to European politics. Today, the Lublin Triangle returns Ukraine to the space of Central Europe, to which it has always historically belonged," Kuleba said.

The Ukrainian minister said the Lublin Triangle is enshrined in the recently approved Foreign Policy Strategy of Ukraine, as one of the important new international formats of interaction between our state. Along with the Associated Trio, Quadriga and the Crimea Platform, these new formats reflect Ukraine’s new proactive foreign policy and aim to create security and prosperity for Ukraine and the region between the Baltic and Black Seas.

The Foreign Ministry said that on July 28, 2020 in Lublin, Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania created the Lublin Triangle, a new format of regional interaction. During the first year of its existence, three meetings of foreign ministers, two meetings of heads of departments on national security issues, three meetings of parliamentarians from Ukraine, Poland and Lithuania took place, the Youth Forum of the Lublin Triangle started active work. On July 6, 2021, in Vilnius, the foreign ministers of the three countries signed the Joint Declaration on European Heritage, the Lublin Triangle Cooperation Roadmap and the Plan to Counter Disinformation.
