Kuleba calls on all countries, athletes to support ‘marathon of honesty,’ protect world sports from ‘Russian world’
KYIV. Jan 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba calls on all countries, committees and athletes to protect world sport from the “Russian world” and support the “marathon of honesty” against attempts by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow representatives of the Russian Federation to compete.
“Ukraine has launched an ‘honesty marathon’ to protect the Olympic Games from the propaganda of war. President Zelensky stressed that Russian aggression is incompatible with Olympic principles. Russian athletes should not be allowed to compete. The IOC wants to put a white flag on the Russians, but it is already stained with blood. It’s time for the Olympic gods to come down to earth,” he said at a briefing on Tuesday.
According to Kuleba, the “honesty marathon” has already been supported by a number of countries, organizations and athletes, in particular the Prime Minister of Estonia, the National Olympic Committee of Norway, Denmark, Latvia, Poland, deputies of the Latvian Seimas, the Minister of Sports of Poland.
“I take this opportunity to call on all national committees, all countries and all athletes to stand on the side of honest sports, on the side of Ukraine, on the side of true Olympic principles. Join the ‘marathon of honesty,’ we must protect world sport from the ‘Russian world’ with its lies, manipulations and dirty money,” the Foreign Minister said.
As reported, on January 27, Ukraine launched a marathon of honesty against attempts by the leadership of international Olympic structures to "pull" representatives of the terrorist state into world sport, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said.
