KTZ and Baku Seaport agree on expanding capacity of Trans-Caspian route
ALMATY. Aug 24 (Interfax) – Kazakhstan Temir Zholy (KTZ) and Baku International Sea Trade Port have joined efforts to increase traffic through the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route.
The corresponding memorandum on cooperation in logistics and joint projects was signed during the official visit of Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Azerbaijan.
KTZ has reached an agreement to join the second phase of the port of Baku growth project and the expansion of the existing infrastructure at the port of Alyat. Kazakhstan will be given "a plot of land and existing moors" to support joint projects at the port.
Tokayev in July asked KazMunayGas to study the transportation of Kazakh oil through the Trans-Caspian Route (TITR) as part of diversification efforts.
The TITR is an international transport corridor that runs through China, Kazakhstan, the Caspian Sea, Azerbaijan, Georgia and further to Turkey and European countries. The commissioned Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway is part of the corridor.
