Kremlin sees no specifics as concerns U.S. joining Normandy format

MOSCOW. Dec 8 (Interfax) – The question of expanding the Normandy-format negotiations on Ukraine with the participation of the United States lacks specifics, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

"There are as of yet no specifics on the matter. Yes, the Americans do have influence on Ukraine. The U.S. and NATO – and we understand who plays the key role within the alliance – are pursuing their own goals in regard to Ukraine. But before we talk about expansion, it’s necessary to collate the positions of all four participants," Peskov told the Kommersant daily.

Each of the Normandy Four nations has its own channels of communication with Washington on the Ukraine issue, he said.

"We, too, had one under [former presidential aide Vladislav] Surkov," Peskov said.

The topic of the Normandy format could be raised by French President Emmanuel Macron in conversation with U.S. President Joe Biden, he said.

"We’ll discuss it with Macron, should the topic continue," Peskov said.
