Korniyenko ready to consider opportunity to take position of first deputy speaker
KYIV. Oct 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Chairman of the Servant of the People political party and first deputy head of the eponymous faction in parliament Oleksandr Korniyenko is ready to take the post of first deputy speaker of the Verkhovna Rada in case of a corresponding proposal.
"As for me, I am a team man: if my colleagues offer me such serious levels of responsibility, then of course I will consider this possibility. The only thing that I am very worried about is that this should strengthen our party work, and then I will make this decision, taking into account how this can affect the work of our party, which is now very active," he said at a briefing on Monday.
At the same time, commenting on the information that the current first deputy speaker Ruslan Stefanchuk may become chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Korniyenko called him the most prepared "from the point of view of the future leadership of the future Verkhovna Rada."
"In addition to being a lawyer, one of the ideologues of our party, and the deputy head of the political council of our party, he has been holding the post of first deputy speaker for more than two years, has held sessions several times. I want to remind you that some fateful voting, like the land market and the law on oligarchs, was conducted by Ruslan Oleksiyovych," head of the Servant of the People party said.
But at the same time, Korniyenko said that it is logical and ethical to discuss personnel appointments to any positions "after these positions are vacated."
"Therefore, as soon as there is such opportunity and this position is vacant, then it will be possible to discuss it in detail. It is clear that there are many professional people among the leadership of our party and faction who could take certain positions," he said.
