Kondratiuk, Minister of Education of Slovakia discuss issues of access to education for Ukrainian children

KYIV. March 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Olena Kondratiuk and Minister of Education, Science, Research and Sports of the Slovak Republic J. Horecký discussed access to education for Ukrainian children who moved to Slovakia during the war.

“Children can study in Slovak schools and attend kindergartens … there is a need for additional kindergartens for Ukrainian children in Slovakia. Our women know how and want to work. They seek to find a job in order to independently provide for their stay and children in the country. But they need wider access to kindergarten services,” Kondratiuk said during a meeting with the minister in Bratislava.

The Deputy Chairman also appealed to Horecký with a request to facilitate the passing of the national multi-subject test by high school students who are currently in Slovakia and are completing their studies in Ukrainian schools remotely.

According to the press service of the Verkhovna Rada, Horecký said that about 15,000 Ukrainian children are officially registered in Slovak schools. Tests have been specially developed and adapted for Ukrainian schoolchildren so that they are on an equal footing with Slovak children. The Minister also stressed that Slovakia is very concerned about the psychological health of Ukrainian children.

During Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Slovakia sheltered 110,000 Ukrainians, including 38,500 Ukrainian children. Recently, Slovakia automatically extended the validity of certificates of temporary shelter for Ukrainians for another year, until March 4, 2024.

As reported, Kondratiuk is paying a working visit to Slovakia.
