NUR-SULTAN. Aug 17 (Interfax) – The heads of Kazakh national oil and gas company KazMunayGas (KMG) and State Oil Company of the Azerbaijani Republic (SOCAR) discussed the development of trans-Caspian infrastructure at a meeting in Baku.
KMG CEO Magzum Mirzagaliyev and SOCAR President Rovshan Najaf "discussed issues of bilateral cooperation and the development of the trans-Caspian infrastructure," KMG said.
The KMG CEO also visited Batumi to view the operation of the Batumi oil terminal and Batumi seaport.
KMG acquired the Batumi Oil Terminal or BNT in 2008 through its subsidiary, KazTransOil. The Batumi seaport will remain under the management of the Batumi terminal until 2055. The BNT Group earned 2.5 billion tenge in profit in 2021.
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in July asked KazMunayGas to study the transportation of Kazakh oil through the Trans-Caspian Route or TITR as part of diversification efforts.
