Klitschko: Govt should fix gas price for budgetary institutions at UAH 11.2/cubic meter

KYIV. Sept 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The government should fix the price of natural gas for budgetary institutions and organizations by the end of the heating season at the level of UAH 11.2 per cubic meter instead of the market price of UAH 35, as well as to pay off the difference in tariffs for the past years to local budgets in order to keep tariffs for heat and hot water for the population at the level of the last heating season.

According to the press service of Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko, the mayor announced this at the beginning of the Kyiv City Council meeting on September 23.

"The capital, like other cities, is preparing to start the heating season. Technically, we are ready. But, as you know, there are other challenges that make the situation close to critical. The Association of Ukrainian Cities has proposed specific solutions to the central authorities that will make it possible to start supplying heat and hot water to the population on time," Klitschko said.

According to the mayor, he turned to Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal with questions, the answers to which he should give in parliament during the Hour of Government.

"In particular, the government should fix the price of natural gas for budgetary institutions by the end of the heating season at UAH 11.2 per cubic meter instead of the market price of UAH 35," the mayor of Kyiv stressed.

At the same time, according to him, Naftogaz Ukrainy must urgently remove discriminatory norms in gas supply contracts. Local budgets are to be paid off the difference in tariffs of the previous years and provide compensation for the future in order to keep tariffs for heat and hot water for the population at the level of the previous heating season.

"Because people will not be able to pay at such tariffs! Local budgets, on which they are trying to shift the whole burden, will not be able to cover this difference!" Klitschko said.
