Kharkiv region should become self-sufficient energy region – Minister of Energy

KYIV. Feb 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The energy strategy of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine provides that Kharkiv region will become a self-sufficient energy region, according to the website of the Ministry of Energy, citing head of the department Herman Haluschenko on Monday.

“A priority for us is the decentralization of generation… So that in the event of damage to grids in the future and the impossibility of transmitting electricity, the region provides for itself,” the minister said at a meeting on the state of restoration of the energy infrastructure of Kharkiv region during a working trip to the region.

According to Haluschenko, it is also planned to create a network of small generation in the region, in particular, gas piston or gas turbine one.

“Among the tasks is also an increase in domestic natural gas production. What is especially important for Kharkiv region, the Minister of Energy stressed, adding that the development of a network of small regional thermal power plants is also among the priorities,” the website says.

The participants of the meeting also discussed the needs of the region’s energy workers in the equipment necessary for carrying out repair work, the ministry noted.
