Kazakh-Azerbaijani trade turnover may reach $1 bln shortly – President Tokayev

NUR-SULTAN. Aug 24 (Interfax) – The governments of Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan should increase their bilateral trade turnover to $1 billion in the near future, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said at expanded negotiations with his Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev.

Tokayev said he had come to Azerbaijan on a special mission aimed at bringing bilateral cooperation to a whole new level.

"I am happy to say that our trade has palpably grown in recent years; it has practically tripled. Yet I would like to say that we should not be complacent, as I believe there are still possibilities to increase trade. The governments of both countries should be working on this, so that we bring the bilateral trade turnover to $1 billion in the near future," the presidential press service quoted Tokayev as saying.

There are also good prospects for developing humanitarian cooperation, he said.

"I believe we could have ten days of Azerbaijani culture in Kazakhstan next year under an agreement between the governments of both countries. There is a keen interest in your culture. We would be pleased to welcome outstanding representatives of Azerbaijani culture to our country," Tokayev said.
