Johnson calls for strengthening UK support for Ukraine in fight against Russia
KYIV. Aug 24 (Interfax-Ukraine) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, during his visit to Kyiv on Independence Day, stated the need to increase Britain’s support for Ukraine in the fight against the Russian aggressor.
According to the presidential press service, Johnson assured Zelensky that his state would continue to support Ukraine in every possible way in the fight against the aggressor. In particular, the UK provides defense assistance and conducts exercises for Ukrainian military personnel.
At a briefing with the Ukrainian president in Kyiv, Johnson said now the UK must increase its support for Ukraine.
The head of the British government also noted the importance of preventing the easing of sanctions against Russia. In addition, in his opinion, it is impossible to start negotiations with Russia while it violates the territorial integrity of Ukraine and kills its citizens.
Johnson said this war can end in only one way – Ukraine will win. The UK will be by your side, he said.
The Prime Minister also said Great Britain will help in the restoration of Ukraine, as Ukrainian schoolchildren in the frontline territories, despite the difficult conditions, continue to receive education.
He said the common goal is to ensure that these students, when they grow up, receive all the qualifications necessary for a life in a successful Ukraine. The UK will heal your cities and villages from the scars of this terrible war. The UK will make the country a flower that will be visible to the whole world.
Johnson said he wants people in his country to clearly understand what is at stake in Ukraine. This concerns their right to live in peace, in freedom. But in fact, this concerns all of us when it comes to freedom and democracy, he also said.
According to an Interfax-Ukraine correspondent, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has awarded the British Prime Minister the Order of Freedom.
"It is an honor for me to present the Order of Freedom to Boris on behalf of all Ukrainians. This award fully reflects everything Johnson does for our country and for the whole of Europe," Zelensky said.
