Japan preparing new package of assistance for Ukraine – ambassador
KYIV. Sept 14 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Japan is preparing a new package of assistance for Ukraine, which will include necessary assets for Ukraine to continue the counter-offensive operation and to meet the winter, Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan Serhiy Korsunsky has said.
"As for Ukraine, this policy [of Japan] continues. Its assistance to us does not stop. A new portion of this assistance is being prepared. The only thing is that this is not a weapon, but this is what we will need in order to continue this fantastic counter-operation and in order to meet the winter," Korsunsky said in an interview with the Novoye Vremia publication.
The ambassador specified that earlier Japan had already transferred unmanned aerial vehicles to Ukraine. At the same time, Korsunsky refrained from naming the devices that Ukraine has asked Japan for.
"But we have a very clear urgent request from the Defense Ministry. Today I had a meeting with the board chairman of Hitachi. This company makes several types of products that we really need for civilian and other operations, and we talked about it," the diplomat said, adding that he also met with the Japanese Defense Minister and handed over a list of Ukraine’s needs.
"We have a clear understanding that they study it very carefully and understand the urgency of the need to supply these things. There are also electronics, there are other devices that we will really need in the future. I really hope that this will happen, and in the near future, even before winter, we will be able to send it to Ukraine and use it for its intended purpose," Korsunsky said.
