It is necessary to introduce levers to prevent sexist literature from being publicly-funded – Commissioner of Cabinet for Gender Policy

KYIV. Aug 30 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Commissioner of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for Gender Policy Kateryna Levchenko, considers it necessary to introduce levers to prevent sexist literature from being included in the list of literature, purchased at public expense.

"Well, after a day wasted, I inform you that I have read a manipulative, not scientific, unsubstantiated opus! What I can add to things many friends have said: the premises do not correlate with the conclusions, there is a violation of the rules of logic everywhere, comprehensive conclusions are drawn on the basis of individual facts, the evidentiary base is absent, as well as scientific character in general (despite the fact that the book has the status of a "popular scientific publication"), a lot of contradictions and inconsistencies of the proposed models or advice to the examples provided. At the same time, the text is openly discriminatory (there are many examples), sexist and harmful – because following the rules of upbringing provided in the opus, will definitely lead to trouble," Levchenko wrote on her Facebook page, commenting on Maryna Lange’s book ‘So that it’s Not Too Late at 16,’ in which, in particular, the sexist education of boys and girls is promoted.

The Ombudsman welcomed the decision to withdraw this publication from procurement at public expense.

"The safeguards to keep such opuses out of the public funding basket are urgently needed,’ she said.

Earlier, Maryna Lange’s book "So That It’s Not Late at 16" was included in the list of titles of publications, which was coordinated by expert councils and approved by order of the Ministry of Culture and Information. Later, the Ministry of Culture submitted a request to suspend the procurement process for this publication.
