Issues related to temporary occupation of Crimea discussed during Ukraine-EU consultations in Brussels – Dzhaparova

KYIV. Dec 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – In Brussels (Belgium), during the ninth round of informal Ukraine-EU consultations on the legal consequences of the temporary occupation of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea and the city of Sevastopol, issues related to the occupation of the peninsula were discussed, Deputy Foreign Minister of Ukraine Emine Dzhaparova has said.

"This year, along with our European colleagues, we substantively discussed a wide range of issues related to the temporary occupation of Crimea," Dzhaparova said on her Facebook page.

In particular, the aggravation of the security situation around Crimea, the European policy of non-recognition and the EU’s sanctions policy towards Crimea, the development of the Crimea Platform and Ukraine’s efforts to de-occupy Crimea, in particular, the holding of an international ministerial event at the beginning of 2022 – the Black Sea Security Conference. In addition, the situation with the violation of international humanitarian law by the occupation authorities of the Russian Federation and the issue of protecting human rights on the peninsula.

"I separately expressed gratitude for the representation of the EU at the Inaugural Summit of the Crimea Platform at the level of President of the European Council Charles Michel and Executive Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis," the deputy minister said.

Dzhaparova also said that such consultations have been held annually since 2014 with the participation of senior officials of ministries and departments of Ukraine and the European External Action Service and the European Commission.

"This is one of the key dialogue platforms Ukraine-EU, the purpose of which is to discuss relevant information with the EU on measures taken in the context of solving a whole range of urgent problems due to the temporary occupation of Crimea," she said.

Dzhaparova said the consultations help to ensure coordination and increase the effectiveness of international efforts to comply with the policy of non-recognition of the attempt to an illegal annexation of the peninsula and to counter the steps of Russia to undermine the territorial integrity of Ukraine.
