Issue of transferring MiG-29 aircraft to Ukraine being discussed – Minister of Defense of Slovakia
KYIV. Jan 25 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Slovakia still wants to transfer MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, this issue is being discussed, Slovak Defense Minister Jaroslav Nad has said.
“We are ready to discuss the transfer of MIG-29 aircraft to Ukraine. The decision of the Slovak government depends, first of all, on the decision of the Government of Ukraine, as well as on the agreement of the allies on this issue. We are discussing this now. We’re not going to give them away somewhere else. We still want to transfer them to Ukraine,” he said at an online briefing at Ukraine Media Center Odesa on Wednesday.
The minister added that the fighters are at one of the bases in Slovakia.
According to Nad, in the case of the transfer of F-16 fighter jets to the United States, the Slovak side will be happy to provide training for Ukrainian pilots.
“So far this has not happened, and our priority now is to transfer the MIG-29 to Ukraine to help Ukraine defend itself,” he stressed.
