Iron ore of Russian oligarch Usmanov worth almost UAH 1.8 bln transferred to ARMA

KYIV. Feb 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – A total of 166,000 tonnes of iron ore seized from a Russian oligarch’s company have been transferred to ARMA’s management, the Prosecutor General’s Office reports.

"At the request of the prosecutors of the Prosecutor General’s Office, 166,000 tonnes of iron ore, previously seized in several seaports of Ukraine, with an estimated cost of UAH 1.8 billion, was transferred to the management of ARMA," the agency said on its Telegram channel on Tuesday.

According to the Prosecutor General’s Office, the ore is the property of a foreign company: during 2021-2022, a non-resident legal entity registered in an EU country, together with Russian companies affiliated with a Russian oligarch, declared the movement of iron ore through the territory of Ukraine to Asian countries in the customs regime "transit" for a total amount of over UAH 1.3 billion.

In order to evade paying taxes and other obligatory payments during the import of goods into the territory of Ukraine, company officials used the mechanism of the so-called interrupted transit.

"In fact, they did not pursue the goal of exporting ore outside Ukraine. In fact, the company’s officials shipped the goods to business entities – residents of Ukraine, without paying customs duties. Thus, more than UAH 118 million in damage was caused to the state," the message says.

The pretrial investigation is carried out by BES detectives, operational support is carried out by the SBU.

The message does not indicate the name of the Russian oligarch, as a source in law enforcement agencies told Interfax-Ukraine, it is about Alisher Usmanov.
