Investigators identify everyone who had contact with MP Polyakov shortly before his death – Interior Ministry

KYIV. Oct 12 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The investigation has identified all the persons who were with MP Anton Polyakov before his death, there was also a third person in the company with the deputy, director of the liaison department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Artem Shevchenko has said.

"We have an established witness [the taxi driver who drove Polyakov over], he gave evidence … The evidence that he is giving now officially, under the protocol, is different from what he said right away, while talking to the police on the spot," Shevchenko told reporters in Kyiv on Tuesday.

In particular, as the director of the department noted, the taxi driver initially said that he picked Polyakov up by accident, but now he is giving evidence that he was driving behind the car in which Polyakov was with another witness.

"With him [the taxi driver], law enforcement officers are now conducting investigative actions in order to fully establish the place, role and sincerity of each of the three witnesses," he added.

At the same time, Shevchenko stressed that as part of the investigation of the case, suspicion notices have not yet been presented to anyone.

As reported, the Kyiv police were alerted on Friday morning, on October 8, that Anton Polyakov, a Ukrainian MP, was found dead in the capital’s Dniprovsky district. Polyakov is believed to have felt unwell while traveling in a taxi. He died despite paramedics’ efforts to resuscitate him.

On this fact, criminal proceedings have been initiated under Part 1 of Article 115 (Intentional Murder) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine marked "natural death". According to preliminary information from law enforcement officers, the cause of Polyakov’s death is acute coronary insufficiency.

The causes of Polyakov’s death could be a chronic disease that could lead to death, or poisoning by an unknown substance, independently or by an unknown person, head of the Kyiv police Ivan Vyhovsky said at a briefing on Friday.

Later, MP Halyna Yanchenko (Servant of the People faction) reported that toxicologists found alcohol and methadone in the blood of the deceased Polyakov.

The funeral of MP Anton Polyakov (For Maybutnie deputy group), whose body was found in a taxi car on Friday, were held in Chernihiv on Monday, October 11.

Later, director of the communications department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Artem Shevchenko said that in the body of the deceased Polyakov, in addition to alcohol, methadone was found, which may have become the cause of death. Law enforcers are considering two versions of methadone getting into Polyakov’s body – independent use or poisoning.
