Invaders begin moving their planes deep into Crimea, to Russia’s airfields – Main Intelligence Agency
KYIV. Aug 17 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The Russian occupiers are partially moving aircraft from forward-based airfields in the occupied Crimea to alternate airfields and permanent-based airfields on the territory of the Russian Federation, the Telegram channel of the Main Intelligence Agency of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported on Facebook on Wednesday.
"Such activity was noted after a series of explosions at military infrastructure facilities of the temporarily occupied peninsula of Crimea, including on the territory of the airfields of Saky (August 9) and Hvardiyske (August 16). The flight of at least 24 planes and 14 helicopters was noted as part of this," the report says.
In particular, on August 17, three Ka-27 helicopters flew from Hvardiyske airfield to Khersones, three Ka-27 helicopters to Sevastopol and eight helicopters to Krasnodar. On the same day, three Su-35S and three Su-34 aircraft were moved from Belbek airfield to Primorsko-Akhtarsk, five Su-27/30 SM aircraft to Krymsk, one aircraft (probably MiG-31) to Gelendzhik and two aircraft (probably MiG-31) to Kuschevsk.
"During the flight, one of the MiG-31 aircraft had a fire on board, probably the main power plant and navigation equipment," the Agency said.
As reported, on August 9, a series of explosions occurred at a military airfield in the village of Novofedorivka in Saky district of the temporarily occupied Autonomous Republic of Crimea. The Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, commenting on the fire on the territory of the airfield, stated that it could not determine the cause of the fire, but recalls the rules of fire safety and the prohibition of smoking in unidentified places. The Defense Ministry also stressed that the fact of the fire can be used by the Russian Federation in an information war.
On the morning of August 16, on Tuesday, explosions began at an ammunition depot in Dzhankoi area in the occupied Crimea, which lasted for several hours. At the same time, a transformer station caught fire in the area. The command of the Air Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine suggested that a violation of fire safety led to the detonation of ammunition.
