Introduction of state of emergency in regions bordering on Belarus not excluded – Monastyrsky

KYIV. Nov 15 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Denys Monastyrsky said that as a result of an interdepartmental meeting on the situation on the border with Belarus, various scenarios for resolving the migration crisis were considered, up to the introduction of a state of emergency in the border regions.

"Various scenarios of these actions have been worked out [to protect the Ukrainian border], up until the introduction of a state of emergency in the border regions," the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said during a briefing after the meeting.

According to him, "the strategic goal of Ukraine for the next two years is the construction of the state border, for which funds are provided in the 2022 budget."

At the same time, if a quick response to the massive presence of migrants is necessary, temporary structures will be erected on these sites. The minister noted that the relevant preparatory work is now being carried out, the locations of the personnel have been determined to strengthen the Border Guard Service, the National Guard, the National Police, interaction with other territorial defense units, public formations for the protection of public order has been established.

"And they will protect our state border in coordination with other departments. We see there will be a need for this," the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

At the same time, he said that they do not plan to involve the military from the east and south of the country in protecting the border with Belarus.
