Intl payment systems MTBMoney, R360 enter Ukrainian market in 2022 – NBU report

KYIV. April 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The international payment systems MTBMoney (operated by PJSC MTB Bank) and R360 (operated by the British company Remittance360 Ltd) entered the Ukrainian market in 2022, according to a report on oversight of the financial market infrastructure of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU).

According to it, by the end of 2022, 54 payment systems were registered in Ukraine, including two state-owned (SEP and Prostir), 36 were created by residents (15 by banks, 21 by nonbank institutions) and 16 by nonresidents.

The total number of participants in payment systems (except for the SEP) amounted to 132 financial institutions.

The NBU SEP remains the only systemically important system in Ukraine, and Mastercard, Visa, NovaPay, Financial World, and Postal Transfer are recognized as important payment systems.

For the first time, important participants in payment systems were recognized, in particular PrivatBank, Kontraktovy Dim LLC, and Universal Payment Solutions LLC. The purpose of this division is to establish increased requirements for oversight objects that occupy a substantial share of the payment market of Ukraine.

According to the report, in terms of the amount of transactions in Ukraine, payments made in the SEP are in the first place (UAH 107.0 trillion, or 95.7% of all payments and transfers within Ukraine). In addition, the top five participants in the SEP (by the amount of payments) in 2022 were the NBU, PrivatBank, Raiffeisen Bank, Oschadbank, and UkrSibbank.

According to the NBU, in terms of the number of transactions in Ukraine, card payment systems are in the first place – 5.1 billion transactions, or 88.2% of the total number of transactions in payment systems.

During 2022, the number of noncash payments using payment cards grew by 4.1% to 5.194 billion (92.8% of the total number of transactions with payment cards), and the amount – by 56.9%, to UAH 3.444 trillion (68.1% of the total amount of transactions with payment cards).
