Interior Minister: Bills aimed at improving road safety to be submitted to Rada in Dec

KYIV. Dec 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Denys Monastyrsky has said that by the end of this year he will send bills to the Verkhovna Rada to improve road safety.

On his Facebook page, the minister posted a video message in connection with the accident that occurred near Chernihiv.

"At about eight in the morning, a truck driver, violating traffic rules, drove into the oncoming traffic and collided with a shuttle bus. Thirteen people have died as a result of the accident. The rest are in serious condition," he said.

The head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs expressed condolences to the families and friends of the victims, and also assured that the police are investigating the circumstances of the tragedy and are carrying out the necessary investigative actions.

Monastyrsky urged everyone to strictly adhere to the rules of the road.

"The patrol police will severely punish drivers and owners of commercial vehicles who drive with ‘bald tires’ or use wheels that have unacceptable flaws to save money, as well as those who exceed the speed limit and maneuvering rules without thinking about their safety, nor about the safety of other road users," the head of the ministry said.

Monastyrsky said: "This month, on my initiative, bills aimed at improving road safety will be submitted to the Verkhovna Rada."

As reported, at about 07:55 on Tuesday, December 7, near the village of Brusyliv, Chernihiv region, on the H-27 Chernihiv-Hremyach road, a truck collided with the Chernihiv-Sosnytsia shuttle bus. As a result of the road accident, 13 people were killed and six people were injured.

Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor’s Office carries out procedural guidance in criminal proceedings on the fact of violation of road safety rules, which led to the death of several people (Part 3 of Article 286 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

In turn, head of the prosecutor’s office of Chernihiv region, Serhiy Vasylyna, wrote on his Facebook page that one of the possible factors that could lead to the accident is weather conditions.
