Independence of NBU, anti-corruption bodies still being negotiated with IMF – Finance ministry
KYIV. Sept 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – On the first day of the remote work of the IMF Mission in Ukraine, Minister of Finance of Ukraine Serhiy Marchenko and Mission Chief for Ivanna Vladkova Hollar discussed progress in the implementation of benchmarks of the Stand-By Arrangement (SBA) and the remaining issues, in particular, ensuring the independence of the National Bank and anti-corruption authorities.
"I hope that during this mission we will be able to quickly resolve issues that are still on the agenda," the press service of the Ministry of Finance said, quoting Marchenko as saying from the meeting on Wednesday.
The parties also discussed the importance of the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of the so-called "resource" bill (No. 5600), which creates an additional resource for the 2022 budget, the ministry said.
The Ministry of Finance said that the mission will continue its work over the next weeks, representatives of the Fund will hold a series of meetings with the executive authorities of Ukraine to assess the achievement of the SBA goals. Further steps will also be taken to ensure sustainable growth of the Ukrainian economy, the implementation of structural reforms and overcoming the consequences of the coronavirus crisis, the ministry said.
"Based on the results of the mission, the preparation of the necessary documents is expected for the first review of the SBA and its consideration by the IMF Board of Directors," the ministry said.
