In Washington, Ukrainian First Dpty PM, U.S. Trade Rep discuss strengthening bilateral cooperation in trade
KYIV. Aug 31 (Interfax-Ukraine) – First Deputy Prime Minister, Economy Minister of Ukraine Oleksiy Liubchenko and U.S. Trade Representative Katherine Chi Tai discussed the strengthening of Ukrainian-U.S. cooperation in trade, economic and investment relations, the Economy Ministry said following a meeting held in Washington on August 30.
"Building joint rules for digital trade and protection of intellectual property rights is a significant contribution to the development of human capital in Ukraine and the United States. Therefore, I propose to pay special attention to these areas in further dialogue," the ministry’s press service said, citing Liubchenko on Tuesday.
He said that currently, within the Ukrainian-U.S. Council on Trade and Investment, working groups are constantly working on strengthening the protection of intellectual property rights, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, and reducing technical barriers in bilateral trade. In addition, the tenth meeting of the Council will soon begin work, for which the Ukrainian side is preparing.
During the meeting, the parties discussed ways to increase investment between countries, as well as regulatory issues, digital trade issues, intellectual property issues, improving corporate governance, the negative impact of excessive steel and aluminum production capacities in countries with non-market economies, the Economy Ministry said.
