IBA support to help create Special Tribunal, compensation mechanism – PGO
KYIV. Nov 28 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Support from the International Bar Association (IBA) will help create a Special Tribunal for the crime of aggression and an international compensation mechanism, the Prosecutor General’s Office (PGO) notes.
In a message posted on Monday on the department’s Telegram channel, it is noted that Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin is on an official visit to the UK, where, in particular, he met with Executive Director of the International Bar Association (IBA) Mark Ellis.
"We discussed the current results of the implementation of the Memorandum of Understanding and the next steps of cooperation, as well as the importance of a fair investigation into genocide and ecocide," the message says.
The Prosecutor General’s Office informs: "IBA support as a global voice of the legal profession will help advance the idea of creating a Special Tribunal for the Crime of Aggression and an International Compensation Mechanism."
According to the prosecutor’s office, the prosecutor general also answered the questions of British journalists about the investigation of war crimes, noting that targeted Russian strikes on Ukraine’s critical infrastructure, which deprive people of electricity, water and heat, are an element of genocide, as they create unsuitable life conditions.
