IAEA expects safety and security zone around ZNPP to be established soon – Grossi
BAKU. March 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is in negotiations with Russia and Ukraine to set up a Nuclear Safety and Security Protection Zone (NSSPZ) around the Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant and expects to achieve a result soon, IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi told journalists in Baku on Thursday.
It must be remembered that this nuclear power plant is located in a war zone, therefore it poses a huge danger. It is for this reason that the IAEA immediately intervened, he said.
The IAEA is keeping expert teams not only at the Zaporizhia NPP but also at all the other Ukrainian nuclear facilities, Grossi said.
The IAEA is working in Ukraine to make sure that not a single gram of nuclear fuel is used for military purposes, he said.
