Holy Dormition Monastery monks refuse to move out of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra – Metropolitan Pavel
KYIV. March 13 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Vicegerent of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Metropolitan Pavel has said that the monks of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) will not move out of the monastery.
“We do not intend to move out and will not do this, because now there are laws that are on the human side. They threaten us, but it is not 1917. Today there is global community, there is some kind of culture,” he said in a video address on the monastery’s website.
At the same time, Metropolitan Pavel said that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church does not oppose “any legal actions,” particularly inspections.
“We are not collaborators. We are citizens of our country. We are people who have been living here since 1988, and many of us have no other place except this one,” he said.
As reported on March 10, the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve terminated a rental agreement with the Holy Dormition Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate) from March 29, 2023.
