Hnidavsky sugar factory will soon start production of bioethanol
KYIV. Sept 21 (Interfax-Ukraine) – PrJSC Hnidavsky Sugar Plant (Lutsk) is completing the construction of a year-round operating line for processing corn and molasses (feed molasses, a by-product of sugar production) into bioethanol.
According to the company’s website, it started producing biofuel from corn due to low prices for it in the current season, which, coupled with the high price of drying corn before storing it in an elevator, makes growing this crop unprofitable.
"For such processing, a separate line for the production of bioethanol is already being built. What will it give people? Firstly, agricultural producers will not need to spend gas on drying, because this year it turns out to be more expensive than the cost of corn itself. We plan to buy corn from people all year round and produce bioethanol," plant deputy director Oleksandr Nikishin said.
The company recalled that in the current year, with the current cost of natural gas, bringing the moisture content of corn to the baseline could cost about $50/tonne. Under such conditions, farmers will reduce the production of corn, since its cultivation will become unprofitable.
According to the consulting company Barva Invest, the current price of corn in the ports of Ukraine on DAP terms is $198-205/tonne, while in granaries and elevators it is even lower.
As reported, in 2017, Hnidavsky Sugar Plant allocated EUR 15 million for the construction of a biogas plant over a period of five years. Also in the same year, the company purchased special presses for pulp pressing, which allow improving production performance.
