Hint at inaction of law enforcement officers in PrivatBank case is pure speculation – Prosecutor General

KYIV. Oct 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Prosecutor General Iryna Venediktova said that all information related to the activities of PrivatBank is "under the microscope" of law enforcement officers, and the hint of Slidstvo.Info journalists to "slow down" the investigation by the Prosecutor General’s Office is a speculation.

The Prosecutor General wrote on her Facebook page that she had watched a film by the editorial staff of Slidstvo.Info, in which journalists suggest that a number of offshore holdings are directly related to the top management of the state.

"As a lawyer and a person holding the post of the Prosecutor General, I have no right to make any comments on this matter and assess the film offered to the viewer. The only thing I can say is that any kind of information related to the activities of PrivatBank has long been at the disposal of our colleagues from NABU, has been checked before, and is now being checked literally ‘under a microscope," Venediktova said.

That is, as she said, this journalistic material did not and could not come as a surprise for the law enforcement system.

The Prosecutor General said: "I want to say what really hooked me: both as a professional and as a person. The author tries to hint to the viewer that the Prosecutor General’s Office ‘slows down’ to a certain extent the investigation of cases regarding PrivatBank. this is not said in the plot, but the smell is easily caught. I firmly declare that the manner in which the hint of our inaction is raised is pure speculation."

Venediktova also said that she personally took responsibility "to get the investigation of these criminal proceedings off the ground."

At the same time, the Prosecutor General said that neither she nor the director of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU) Artem Sytnyk were involved in the leak of information about the suspicion of one of the suspects in the PrivatBank case, the plane with which they managed to land in Ukraine.

"We have versions of what happened and today we are still establishing those involved. I ask you to stop spreading nonsense," Venediktova said.

The film of the Slidstvo.Info project, released the day before, in particular, tells about receiving $40 million since 2012 by offshore companies associated with the government from companies related to businessman Ihor Kolomoisky.
