Health Ministry to introduce compulsory COVID-19 vaccination for govt officials, in education – PM

KYIV. Sept 22 (Interfax-Ukraine) – By a relevant order, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine will introduce compulsory vaccination against coronavirus (COVID-19) for officials and employees of educational institutions, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal said during a government meeting on Wednesday.

"We propose to start the introduction of mandatory preventive vaccinations against COVID-19, in particular for employees of educational institutions, ministries and other central executive agencies along with their structural units, as well as local state administrations," Health Minister Viktor Liashko said.

According to him, this approach is provided for by the current legislation.

"Article 12 of the law on protecting the population from infectious diseases provides that employees of certain professions, industries and organizations, whose activities may lead to the infection of these employees or the spread of infectious diseases by them, are subject to mandatory preventive vaccinations against the corresponding infectious diseases," Liashko said.

The minister said in April 2021, the European Court of Human Rights confirmed the provision of our national legislation that compulsory vaccination is legal and may be necessary in democratic societies and does not contradict the convention for the protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms.
