Head of National Immunization Technical Advisory Group: COVID-19 epidemic situation to worsen with onset of school year
KYIV. Aug 27 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The epidemiological situation with COVID-19 will worsen with the beginning of the new school year, it may be necessary to stop teaching in schools, said head of the National Immunization Technical Advisory Group Fedir Lapiy.
"In relation to children, schoolchildren, the situation is likely to deteriorate rapidly and may be much worse than at the beginning of 2021. People will get sick, new quarantine zones will have to be introduced and education stopped in schools. The general principle is the following: one need to have as few contacts with people as possible," he said in an exclusive interview with Interfax-Ukraine.
Lapiy noted that "with the beginning of the school year, the situation will only get worse, it cannot improve."
"This was in many ways obvious, because in the summer we had certain signals for this. For example, we have an outbreak of COVID-19 caused by the delta strain in the Young Guard camp near Odesa; we have an increase in the incidence both in rural regions and in large cities. We will not stop this," he said.
