Head of Kyiv-based Saakashvili's office says Georgian border guards detain her at Tbilisi airport

KYIV. Oct 5 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Head of the office of ex-Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, executive director of the Office of simple solutions and results Maria Barabash has said that Georgian border guards detained her at the Tbilisi airport.

Barabash made the corresponding statement on Facebook after her return to Ukraine on Tuesday.

"I am already in my native Kyiv. I apologize to the passengers and the crew of today’s SkyUp Tbilisi-Kyiv flight for the delayed departure from Tbilisi. The Georgian border service had been thinking for a long time whether to let me out of the country or not. At passport control I was detained and released only after a call to the border guards," wrote Barabash.

As reported, ex-president of Georgia, citizen of Georgia and Ukraine Mikheil Saakashvili was detained in Tbilisi on October 1. He is currently in prison in the city of Rustavi. In Georgia, Saakashvili is involved in several criminal cases.

Representatives of the Georgian authorities have repeatedly stated that they will detain him as soon as he crosses the border. Saakashvili had earlier declared a hunger strike and stated that he did not intend to end it under any circumstances.
