HACC arrests ex-MP Hranovsky in absentia for organizing scheme of abuse at Odesa Port-Side Plant

KYIV. Dec 7 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The High Anti-Corruption Court (HACC) has chosen a custody status of detention for the wanted former MP Oleksandr Hranovsky, who organized a criminal scheme of abuse at the Odesa Port-Side Plant, the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) has said.

"HACC chose a custody status for the former MP, the organizer of the criminal scheme of abuse at the Odesa Port-Side Plant. On December 7, 2022, at the request of a NABU detective, agreed by a SAPO prosecutor, the investigating judge of the HACC chose a custody status of detention for the organizer of the criminal scheme, the implementation of which in the sale of mineral fertilizers caused damage to JSC Odesa Port-Side Plant (99.5% owned by the state) in the amount of UAH 93.3 million, namely to the MP of Ukraine of the eighth convocation," the Prosecutor’s Office said on its Facebook page on Wednesday.

The SAPO said that after the arrest of the accused, who is on the international wanted list, and no later than 48 hours from the moment of his delivery to the court, the court will decide on the application of this custody status.

According to the prosecutor’s office, as part of the pretrial investigation, it was established that in March-December 2015, the MP, together with a trustee, organized a scheme according to which the Odesa Port-Side Plant sold mineral fertilizers to a predetermined company at below market prices.

According to the agreements, the private company allegedly resold the company’s products at market prices to foreign companies from the real sector of the economy, although in fact the products were delivered directly by the Odesa Port-Side Plant. As a result, the plant lost income in the amount of about UAH 93.3 million.

The prosecutor’s office reminded that among the suspects are the deputy director and head of the department of the port plant, the owner of the nonresident company participating in the corruption scheme, the trustee of the MP, and the organizer of this scheme – at that time the MP.

The report does not indicate the name of the former MP, but it is about Oleksandr Hranovsky.
