HAAC arrests in absentia ex-head of Ukrkhimtransammiak suspected of seizing UAH 42.5 mln

KYIV. Sept 2 (Interfax-Ukraine) – The investigating judge of the High Anti-Corruption Court (HAAC) on Wednesday determined the custody status of the former head of the state-owned enterprise Ukrkhimtransammiak, suspected of abuse of office, which caused more than UAH 42.5 million in losses, arresting him in absentia.

"HAAC granted the petition of the detectives and the prosecutor and determined the custody status of the defendant as arrest. The full text of the decision will be announced on September 6, 2021," the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) reported in its Telegram channel.

According to the report, on June 24, the ex-head of Ukrkhimtransammiak was notified that he will be prosecuted for abuse of office (Part 2 of Article 364 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine), but the whereabouts of the suspect was not established and he was notified about it in a written form (in pursuance to Articles 135 and 278 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine.).

According to the investigators, the ex-head of Ukrkhimtransammiak, abusing his official position, organized the purchase of bentonite clay, which was mined by the company under his control, instead of using the free soil that was available in the city for repair work to add the ammonia pipeline.

As reported, NABU detectives established these facts as part of the investigation of another corruption scheme at state-owned enterprise Ukrkhimtransammiak, the case against which is being heard in court. The episode on the seizure of UAH 42.5 million in autumn 2017 was separated.
